Effective Date: July 5, 2026 ยท Developer: John Steinmetz
This Privacy Policy explains how John Steinmetz ("we," "us," or "our"), based in North Carolina, USA, handles information in connection with the SpecPad application for iPhone and iPad (the "App"). SpecPad is designed to work entirely on your device: your notes and content stay on your device and in your own private iCloud. We do not operate any server that stores your notes, and we never receive them.
Questions? Contact us at [email protected].
a. Notes and content you create. Your notes, handwriting, drawings, typed text, templates, notebooks, tags, and any files you add are stored on your device in the App's sandbox. We do not upload, sync to our own servers, or read this content.
b. iCloud sync (CloudKit). If you are signed in to iCloud and have it enabled, the App uses Apple's CloudKit to store and sync your notes in your own private iCloud database so your content is available across your iPhone and iPad. This data lives in your personal iCloud account, managed by Apple under your Apple ID. We have no access to it, and it is not stored on any server we control. You can manage or disable this in your device's iCloud settings.
c. Purchase and subscription data. When you subscribe, our payments partner RevenueCat receives an anonymous app-user identifier, your purchase and receipt data, and standard device metadata (such as country, device model, and OS version) to manage your subscription entitlements. Apple processes the actual payment; we never receive your payment card details. Your anonymous identifier is visible in the App as your Support ID.
d. Diagnostic information. We may receive limited, non-identifying technical information through Apple and RevenueCat โ for example, crash reports and purchase analytics โ to keep the App functioning correctly.
We use information to: provide the App's note-taking features on your device; sync your content through your own iCloud where enabled; manage subscriptions and feature access; provide customer support; and comply with applicable law. We do not use your notes or content for any purpose beyond operating the App on your device.
All of your notes and content are stored locally in the App's sandbox on your device. If you use iCloud, that content also syncs to your own private iCloud database via CloudKit, which is hosted by Apple and controlled through your Apple ID. We cannot access your iCloud data. If you delete the App, local data is removed from that device; content in iCloud is controlled through your Apple ID and iCloud settings.
We share information only as needed to operate these services:
We do not authorize these providers to use your information for their own marketing.
We are based in the United States. If you use the App from outside the United States, limited data (purchase metadata via RevenueCat) may be processed in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, port, or restrict the processing of your personal information.
To exercise any right, email [email protected].
Your notes and content are retained on your device and in your iCloud until you delete them or remove the App. Anonymous purchase records are retained as long as needed to provide subscriptions and as required by Apple and applicable law.
To delete your content, remove individual notes inside the App, or delete the App to remove its local data from a device. Content stored in your iCloud is managed through your Apple ID and iCloud settings. To delete purchase records associated with your anonymous identifier, email [email protected] with your Support ID (visible in the App settings).
Your notes never leave your device through our systems. iCloud sync is handled by Apple over encrypted connections within your own account. Purchase data is transmitted to RevenueCat over encrypted connections (TLS). No transmission or storage method is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
SpecPad is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new effective date and, where required, provide additional notice.
